Currently, there are roughly 60 active Ultimate players in Boracay and the number is slowly increasing.  We play Ultimate almost every day.  Either in front of Hey Jude Bar or at the beach front of Hawaiian Barbecue / Beach Bum Bar.

    How the team started:

Beach Ultimate formally started in Boracay, 2003.  The first Boracay Open was coming up and the organizers wanted a team composed of locals to join the tournament.  And so, a team was formed basically composed of dragon boat rowers, hence the name Boracay Dragons.  A few players were taught how to catch and throw the disc, mostly back hand throws and only a few who could do forehands.  But prior to the tournament, they had no idea about the game “ultimate frisbee”.  They didn’t know the rules and the game.   The first time they joined the tournament, they placed second against Hong Kong.  The following year, the team had more knowledge of the game and joined the 2nd Boracay Open more prepared.  This time, they came in first and have been winning the annual tournament.  The Boracay Dragons are unbeaten on the beach since then and are coined “The Beach Kings of Asia”.
